Cups app
CUPS is a mobile app that was launched in New York City in April, 2014. It acts as a discovery program for independent coffee shops. The app is currently active in more than 170 cafes in New York City. Customers purchase CUPS “plans” that include a certain amount of beverages, then redeem for coffee or tea drinks at participating locations using the app.
== How it Works ==
The CUPS app lets a user view cafes in his area that are part of the CUPS program. The customer goes into his selected coffee shop and places his order as usual. He then chooses his desired drink from a screen on the app. Instead of paying with cash or credit card, he presents the cashier with his mobile phone displaying a checkout page. The cashier submits a specific code that enters the purchase into the CUPS system.
The CUPS app is available for the iPhone and Android operating systems. Users download the app from the App Store or Google Play, then sign in using their Facebook or Google+ credentials. All users get their first CUPS drink free for logging into the app.
In addition to allowing users to discover independent coffee shops, CUPS provides a discount of about 30% on coffee and tea beverages. The discount varies based on which plan a user has and how often they use the app.
